Coltrane's lone Blue Note session as leader, hard-bop perfection with a stellar sextet. Tuneful and accessible, it is one of the easiest classic-jazz entry points. A reliably great listen. Arrives at the top of the John Coltrane page for good reason.

On vinyl: Pre-'60s originals are collector's items — a well-mastered reissue is usually the better buy.
