Ágætis byrjun was released in 1999, the second album by Icelandic band Sigur Rós, and the record that brought the group significant international attention, built around vocalist Jónsi Birgisson's falsetto, often sung in a constructed language the band called Hopelandic (Vonlenska) rather than conventional Icelandic or English lyrics.

Sound
