Background

Spiderland was released in 1991, the second and final album by Louisville band Slint before their initial breakup, recorded when the band members were still in their teens or barely out of them. Despite minimal commercial impact on release, the album has come to be regarded as one of the foundational texts of post-rock and math rock, its influence far outstripping its original small audience.

Sound

The album is built around intricate, interlocking guitar parts that shift between quiet, tightly controlled passages and sudden, explosive dynamic shifts, vocals delivered in a flat, often spoken-word style that avoids conventional melodic singing almost entirely.
